Dutch Bros pours espresso, Rebel energy drinks and blended Freezes from drive-thru shops across more than a dozen US states. Broistas build almost every order to request. Two or three flavours go through a base at the window. One drink name can therefore arrive hot, iced, blended or poured over cold brew.

Dutch Bros History

Dutch Bros began as a single pushcart in downtown Grants Pass, Oregon, in February 1992. Dane Boersma and his brother Travis were third-generation dairy farmers who had grown up on the family herd. The two spent just over twelve thousand dollars on one espresso machine and the cart itself. Rock music, a sidewalk queue and a habit of learning customers by name turned that first cart into a second one within the year.

Grants Pass gave the brothers their first fixed shop, and the drive-thru window became the model everywhere after it. Franchising opened in 1999 and narrowed sharply after that. From 2008 the company sold franchises only to staff of three years or more, which kept every new operator inside the culture. Dutch Bros stopped selling them altogether in 2017, in favour of shops the company owns outright.

Dane Boersma died in 2009 after a diagnosis of ALS. Travis carried the company forward alone from there. Rebel, the energy base the chain blends itself, now anchors a whole side of the board. Dutch Bros listed on the New York Stock Exchange in September 2021 under the ticker BROS, raising 484 million dollars. Christine Barone serves as president and chief executive, from a head office that moved to Tempe, Arizona. More than 1,225 shops carry the board today, most of them across the western states.
